Eddie Kehler: Teacher, Acting Coach, Director and Actor.
Eddie has been acting professionally for almost 30 years. His training started as a graduate of the two year Meisner program at William Esper Studio in New York, in which he studied with Maggie Flanigan. He had the opportunity to then study with the incomparable Wynn Handman. He is a member of the celebrated Actors Studio, where he has studied sensory work with Barbara Bain and Penny Allen. He currently serves on the Actors Studio Board of Directors.
His professional career began on the stage, and encompasses theater, film, commercial and television appearances from New York to Los Angeles. Some of his favorite theater credits include New York productions of “The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial”, “Saint Joan”, and “Shpinnen Un Shpinnen” at Theater for the New City. Most recently he appeared in New York at the Midtown International Theater Festival in the original “A Baby’s Arm Holding an Apple”. He was a founding member of the celebrated Kraine Theater in New York’s East Village.
In L.A., he’s performed in productions of “Side Man”, “Moonchildren” directed by Howard Fine, “Wait Until Dark” for which he won an Ethel Case Award for Best Supporting Actor, the original Actors Studio production of “Bad Hurt On Cedar Street” at the Tiffany Theater directed by Salome Jens, and “The Sunshine Boys”, directed by Jeffrey Hayden with Tony Award winning Hal Linden. He also starred in the Actors Studio production of Mamet's "Speed-the-Plow" directed by his father, renowned character actor, Jack Kehler.
Eddie has appeared in numerous television and independent films which include Desperate Housewives, Dexter, Criminal Minds, NYPD Blue, Days of Our Lives, Southland, The Guardian, Movin' Too Fast, Vampires Anonymous as well as many others. He played the recurring role of the autistic man Paul Potts on Ally McBeal.
Eddie has directed productions of "I Stand Before You Naked" by Joyce Carol Oates, An Evening of One Acts at The New Collective LA which included "Vivien" by Percy Granger and "A Social Event" by William Inge. He is currently directing a production of "Blood River" by Greg Abbott. He is also a member of the Actors Studio Director's Unit.
Eddie has been teaching acting for 20 years in Los Angeles. Among the terrific actors Eddie has coached, many have gone on to great work in T.V., theater and film. His insights from years at the Actors Studio have been invaluable to apply what he has learned to support the work of fellow actors.
